Abstract
The main objective of this research is to study kidney injury as an outcome of autoimmune disease such as Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE). It has a qualitative approach with non-experimental design of explanatory scope under the technique of bibliographic and documentary review. To this end, an exhaustive and rigorous search of the literature was carried out, using as an instrument the bibliographic records, in which the information found was recorded and organized, taking into account selection criteria. The most prominent search engines were: PUBMED, CINAHL, SCIELO, DIALNET, GOOGLE SCHOLAR, COCHRANE, SCOPUS. From the search it was obtained that: lupus nephritis (NL) is the most important renal involvement; at the clinical level, NL can manifest itself through any nephrological syndrome ranging from minimal alterations of the urinary sediment to extreme chronic renal pathology. Renal biopsy is the most indicated test to obtain the accurate diagnosis of NL, leading to its identification according to the classification of the International Society of Nephrology and the Society of Renal Pathology ISN / RPS 2003 and the establishment of the appropriate treatment that is planned according to the clinical commitment of the patient. With the above, it is concluded that the autoimmune disease type systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) can trigger kidney injury with probabilities of requiring dialysis or kidney transplantation. Faced with this, a multidisciplinary approach is key in the management of this injury, involving rheumatologists, nephrologists and other specialists, so that a comprehensive treatment that considers medical and psychosocial aspects can be provided.
