Abstract
The proper functioning of health establishments and the provision of services in conditions of quality, safety, hygiene and comfort for patients, visitors and staff require that the biomedical teams of hospitals function properly and for this priority must be given to the application of strategies and activities for their preventive care. The objective was to analyze the preventive maintenance present in the medical teams of the Emergency Service and the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Guayaquil and its impact on productivity, such as materials and methods, a quantitative approach was proposed, the non-experimental cross-sectional design. supported by documentary research. The method of analysis was descriptive and inferential. The population consisted of 06 biomedical technicians, the techniques were interview and observation, and the instrument was the questionnaire with mixed response options. It was obtained as a result that: 50% of the biomedical equipment had between 1 and 2 failures, which stopped the operation of the equipment between 1 and 5 days (66.6%), of the 20 existing equipment in the services, 11 (55 %) require corrective maintenance and 45% preventive maintenance, in conclusion, preventive maintenance is a fundamental part for the proper functioning of hospital activities and beyond, ensure the survival of the users. Carrying out a preventive maintenance plan allows identifying the study of supply and demand in critical services, diagnosing the maintenance situations that are applied, and the depreciation levels.
