Abstract
The present work consisted of identifying the profile of the tourist in the destination of Pedernales, Ecuador; with the purpose of knowing the origin, characteristics and perceptions of the visitor in this tourist space of sun and beach. From the methodological point of view, it is framed within the non-experimental quantitative approach, of an analytical nature. The structured interview was used and the questionnaire served as an instrument for data collection and was analyzed through descriptive statistics. The field work was used as a technique to know the sociodemographic and psychographic profile and the assessment of variables related to the tourist. 381 surveys were applied during July-August / 2018, relying on probabilistic sampling with a finite population, in order to collect significant data from 42,813 of the population, yielding a 95% confidence level in the SPSS. As a result, internal tourism develops because they mainly come from zones two and four in the country, with an age range between 21-40 years and a socioeconomic level type B, weighing the destination with a rating of eight so the current tourist interest and relevance is recognized, and it hopes to be a regional and competitive reference in the medium term
