Abstract

The objective of the research was to determine the methodological strategies that contribute to the teaching of environmental education in the middle sublevel of Basic General Education in natural sciences in the Educational Unit "5 de Junio", of the El Carmen Canton, Manabí, Ecuador. The positivist paradigm was adopted with a quantitative approach of the descriptive type, through field research. The technique used was the survey of teachers and students, supported by a questionnaire-type data collection instrument. The existence of some strategy for the incorporation of environmental education in the school is unknown and it is recognized that the preparation received in this area during his career was deficient. The teaching of educational topics related to environmental problems is deficient. The lack of methodological activities related to the theme and the limitations in the knowledge of the global, regional and local environmental reality were verified. The students within the subjects of their preference include Natural Sciences but recognize that no activities are carried out or knowledge related to environmental problems is taught. It is considered pertinent that in environmental education, the contents must be approached gradually and progressively, so that the construction of knowledge becomes more complex, and it must be part of a methodological strategy designed and elaborated with the consensus of the teachers.
