Abstract
The Social and Solidarity Economy in Ecuador was inserted in the country in 2008 from the reforms to the Constitution of the Republic; where, it is established in article 283 as an economic system, having a dynamic and balanced relationship between society, state and market. In which Ecuador, due to its search to generate the socioeconomic development of its population, has implemented in its political and economic system the social and solidarity economic model in which it has tried to seek the transformation of the dominant commercial and financial conceptions by other more sustainable, respecting the preservation of natural resources, the balance of ecosystems and the maintenance of biodiversity, promoting the common good and expanding opportunities for people to live better. The objective of this article is to determine the contribution of the popular and solidarity economy to the economic development of the country. The methodology used was through an exhaustive bibliographic analysis, resulting in a theoretical review article, supported by physical and digital books; as well as high-level scientific articles. As conclusions, it is concluded that the social and solidarity economy emerges as a solution to the exhaustion and crisis of the capitalist model incorporating instruments of social transformation, reaffirming the need for relations of solidarity in economic activities. This alternative encourages the practice of the values of solidarity, cooperation, co-responsibility and care for the environment
