Abstract
Education is the most powerful tool to have better human beings and therefore excellent societies, but sometimes it faces different challenges in terms of having students who successfully achieve the final goal; their graduation. That is why this study aims to analyze the different factors that affect the dropout of students from "Santa María" High School. It was based on the UNESCO (2013) theoretical research, it was conducted with a quantitative approach, of positivist paradigm with a descriptive level and field design. To carry out the research, the survey technique was applied and a structured questionnaire was used as an instrument. It was validated with ten questions related to the problem and the factors that affect the dropout of students to 47 teachers of the institution. In addition, the factor that most affects student desertion is the economic factor. The teachers said that they fully agree with this statement. On the other hand, the factor with the least occurrence is the pedagogical factor. Finally, after having collected and analyzed the data, the research concluded that school dropout is an existing problem in the country, especially in the rural areas of the Coast region
