Abstract
Memory has a primary role in the learning process. In effect, this neuropsychological variable involves storing and retrieving data, while learning involves the reorganization of new and old data to configure them in knowledge. For this reason, it was decided to delve into the literary review of the memory capacity and its influence on the learning process in elementary students with the intention of designing a program whose general objective was to stimulate work memory in students of 5th grade General Education Basic to optimize academic performance in the areas of Language and Literature and Mathematics. Taking that objective into consideration, the contents were chosen following the guidelines set forth in the Curriculum in force in the Republic of Ecuador for Elementary Basic General Education, specifically, for 5th grade. Similarly, the activities that were designed to stimulate memory integrate the exercise of reading, writing and calculation, are based on collaborative and indivudal work, with the possibility of being developed inside and outside the classroom, together with what they underline the recovery of previous knowledge that contributes to the promotion of the codification of meanings. Among the most significant conclusions, it can be pointed out that the proposal is configured as a valuable contribution, because it is not aimed exclusively at students with memory disorders, but that it is extended to students with normal margins of cognitive development.
